But she has a plan up her sleeve and Assistant DA Cleve Marshall (Wendell Corey) who falls in love with her suspects it. CleveOs marriage is predictable with obligation smothering passion and affection. His meeting with Thelma will ruin him if his own weakness wins out. But unlike the usual cold, passionless femme fatale of film noir, Thelma has a heart and a conscience.
