There are spaces in America that are actually not of America, like Colorado City, Ariz. That's the home of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, headed up by the (now incarcerated) Warren Jeffs and consisting of a tribe of men and women who actively practice polygamy while shunning the outside world.
As with any tribe, there are outcasts, and "Sons of Perdition" focuses on three such young men, who voluntarily left their community while still teens. Sam, Bruce and Joe jump into a modern world without defenses; they soon know to wear their pants with boxers exposed, but remain ignorant as to what comic books are, what the capital of the U.S. is and that Catholics believe in Jesus.
Directors Tyler Measom and Jennilyn Merten follow the boys as they try to find a home, and, while the boys remain relentlessly openhearted and somehow innocent, they're also slowly learning to close off their hearts from intimate contact with anyone. Measom and Merten can occasionally be heard off-camera offering questions, but they keep a certain distance from their subjects, filming their carelessness with children or sporadic drug and alcohol use without comment.
