The story is about Mahadevi (Savithiri) the Princess of the Chalukya Kingdom who marries the Commander of the Chola Kingdom Vallavan I (M.G. Ramachandran) in a Swayamvaram. However the deputy Commander Karunakaran who is a friend of Vallavan and who loses to Vallavan in a sword fight and is unable to win over Mahadevi feels humiliated and vows to take revenge. His obsession towards Mahadevi makes him play all kinds of dirty tricks. Will Krunakaran's evil intentions win or will good win over evil? The answers to these questions unfold as the story progresses.
