Chandrika is a simple village girl who is happily married to a King. Thet are expecting their first child. But amidst this happiness Chandrika's step mother is unhappy that her own daughter Mohana is not in Chandrika's place as the Queen. So she approaches a magician. With the help of a magic spell, he changes Mohana's form and face to match that of Chandrika's. Chandrika on the other hand is made to look like Mohana. While Mohana (looking like Chandrika) joins the King in the Palace, a devastated Chandrika approaches a sage to save her from this chaos. The sage tells her that the only one who can save her from this state of distress is her child in the womb. Chandrika has no choice, but to wait. Chandrika gives birth to a son named Prathapan (Gemini Ganesan). Mohana on the other hand gives birth to a son named Jagaveera (Nambiar). When Prathapan grows up, he learns of his mother's plight and asks the sage for a way to help unite his mother with his father. The sage tells him that he should cross many dangerous hurdles and bring a lady named "Karpaga Kanni". Prathapan sets out to accomplish this mission, but he is unaware that his brother Jagaveera and the magician have other plans in store for him.
