Steam drilling equipment and spring poles were used. When oil became more in demand and technology improved better wells were drilled and in more quantity. Oil searching expands to swamps, oceans and other places that were not possible without new technlogy. Core samples are taken from the earth to tell if there are oil deposits in the area. Pumping jacks extract crude oil from the ground and steel pipes bring the oil to the refineries.
