In the 18th century, Count Frederic Regula(Christopher Lee)known as Dr. Sadism by locals, is drawn and quartered for killing twelve virgins in his dungeon torture chamber.Just before he is killed, Regula vows revenge on the descendants of both the judge and the surviving thirteenth girl. Thirty-five years later, Roger Montelise is given a mysterious message concerning his past which sets him off on a journey by coach to Count Regula's old castle to find out about his ancestors and himself.Along the way he picks up a companion in hard-drinking "priest" Father Fabian, and Baroness Lillian von Brabant.She has received a similar invite.It is later revealed that both have been lured to the castle by Anathol, Regula's manservant in a diabolical plan to revive the Count and allow him to carry out his vengeance on the daughter of his intended thirteenth victim and the son of his prosecutor in order to attain immortallity.
